Bhushi Dam - 4 km
Bushy Dam is one of the majestic picnic spots in
Lonavla. The Dam is magnificent during the monsoons with
water gushing out through the dam make exhilarating
waterfalls. The Dam is located at the backdrop of scenic
hilly terrains and lush green environments.This is a
much sought weekend and vacation destination in Lonavla.
Calm environment and cool atmosphere add the beauty of
this site. Swimming is not allowed in this Dam.
Wax Museum - 6 km
Another scenic point in the town of
Lonavla is Wax Museum founded by Sunil Kandaloor, a 37-
year-old wax artist from Kerala. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah
Rukh Khan, Hariharan, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Mother
Teresa, Sai Baba, AR Rahman, Balaji Tambe and Yesudas
are among some of the famous personalities one will find
at the wax museum in Lonavla.
Pawna Lake - 7 km
Pawna Lake (Pavna Lake) is an
artificial lake formed by the Pawna Dam built across the
Pawna River nearby Lonavla. The lake attracts many
tourists due to its imposing natural ambience and cool
climate. From the dam site one can view the majestic
sights of Tungi, Logagarh and Tikona forts.
Karla & Bhaja Caves - 12 km
Karla and Bhaja Caves, located in the
hills at a distance of 11-km from Lonavla, are important
places to visit. These rock-cut cave temples dating back
to 2nd century BC and are amongst the oldest and finest
examples of Buddhist rock cut temple art in India,
belonging to the Hinayana sect of Buddhism. Adventure
seekers can try their hand at rock climbing at the
Duke's Nose peak and other locations in the Karla hills,
near Lonavla
Lohagad Fort - 15 km
Lohagarh, literally means Iron fort,
is an important hill fort used extensively by Chatrapati
Shivaji. It has a long history and was used by all
dynasties who ruled Vidharbha and Maratha kingdoms. The
fort is placed at an altitude of more than 1050 meters.
This fort is situated on the Sahyadri ranges and divides
the Pavna basin and Indrayani basin.
The fort site is a fine destination for tourist with
interests in architecture, archeology and history. The
actual date of original fort is not clearly known but
the known records points out some additional
constructions such as a step well and big tank during
eighteenth century. The ancient fort's four mammoth
gates are still intact and are in good condition
Rajmachi fort - 18 km
Rajmachi is very famous fort near
twin hill stations in Maharashtra - Lonavla and
Khandala. Rajmachi fort is nearby 18/20 Kms from
Lonavla on the top of the Western Ghats.. This trek is
very good for the beginners. The highway from Khopoli to
Khandala-Lonavla, known as Borghat, is an ancient trade
route. Overseas trade of the Western India and the
Deccan was carried through the ports of Chaul, Revdanda,
etc., on the western coast.. Fort Rajmachi was built to
control the trade route of Borghat. There are two
Fortresses on Rajmachi -the taller one in the east is
Shrivardhan and the other in the west is Manoranjan.
Rajmachi is a unique fort having wide plateau on all
sides of the twin fortresses..
Kal Bhairav temple is situated in the col between
Shrivardhan and Manoranjan. Local inhabitants worship
Kal Bhairav even today. An ancient Shiva temple, built
in Hemdpanti style, is situated on the western side of
the water reservoir. Rajmachi affords a magnificent view
of sprawling ranges of the Sahyadri mountain and one can
see from here a number of historical forts in the
Sahyadri. Manik Gad, Karnala, Irsal and Prabal Gad (all
forts) and Matheran (hill resort) are in the west. Dhak
is in the North, Lohagad is in the east and Koyri Gad is
in the south of Rajmachi
